Ladies vs Ricky Bahl: Movie Review

I don’t have time to write an in depth review…exams ūüė¶ but here is a brief one:

I swore never to watch another Anushka Sharma movie after my bad ecounters with her at IIFA but I am in love with Ranveer so I went to see Ladies vs Ricky Bahl.

The best part is that Ranveer is there throughout the film!

What works:

1. Ranveer Singh – this guy is a HUNK! But there is more to this book than just the cover. He proves all ¬†those critics who thought he could only do ¬†loud, jhakas roles WRONG. ¬†His character actually speaks relatively little. ¬†Yet, he says so much through his eyes and body language. ¬†Mark my words this guy is the next Shah Rukh Khan of Indian cinema. ¬†He is a self-made guy whose love for acting is evident in his performance. ¬†Plus, his hair…uff tauba! I FEEL SO BAD I DID NOT MEET HIM AT IIFA!!!!! ūüė¶

2. The 3 girls РIGoing in I did not think these girls would be given much scope or add much to the film but I was wrong! They have substantial roles and are quite good to.  Especially Parineeti Chopra, she delivers her dialogues very well and brings a smile to your face every time she says something.  It will be interesting to see her next film which appears to be more of a serious role.

3. The dialogues – Habib Faisal does it again! The dialogues are hilarious! Especially the ones given to Parineeti Chopra’s character Dimple. (There is one really funny one about pyaar between the bakra and kassai.)

What does not work:

1. Anushka Sharma (Yes I am biased so this is most likely unreliable.) Рshe is stuck in a rut of the same roles again and again.  The bubbly, over smart girl who is a softy at heart but has a hard exterior.  Plus she looks much too thin!  She lost a lot of weight but I though she looked great before.

2. Not enough songs Рthere are only 2 dance numbers (Mera Jigar Da Tukda and Jazba) in the movies narrative (Thug Le is an end credits song).  Ranveer is such a great dancer it would have been nice to see him dance more.

Ladies vs Ricky Bahl is a good movie.  If you have a free evening, give it a shot.  It will make you smile and you will have a good time. Plus Ranveer Singh deserves a hit.  We need more talents like him who make it on their own.

Rating; *** – 3 stars!

Shilpa Shetty Pregnant

After months of speculation Shilpa Shetty confirmed that she and husband Raj Kundra are expecting a child.

I had the chance to see the couple together in real life and I have to say Raj seems like a super supportive husband.

Congratulations to the couple!

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu Official Trailer

OMG this movie is going to be a fun ride guaranteed!

Is it just me or does Imran look different?  A good different though.

I was a bit apprehensive about Kareena and Imran’s jodi but they look good together.

Enjoy ūüôā

Genelia-Ritesh to Wed

As they say there is no smoke without fire and this is particularly true in the case of Genelia D’Souza and Ritesh Deshmukh. ¬†For years now the two have been denying their relationship to the media. This has not stopped the media from speculating though. ¬†Recently, the two admitted that they are going to get married very soon. ¬†Here are some tweets from the two and their celebrity friends:

It is true after all: Pyaar chupaye nahin chupta!  The two are supposedly set to wed in February 2011.

Congrats to the couple!

Pete Wentz and Priyanka Chopra Collaborating!

Well it is old news that Priyanka Chopra is recording an album in the US.  Now we know that Pete Wentz (from Fall Out Boy) was in the recording studio with PC today.

I’m sure our Piggy Chops will make us proud yet again!

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan: Movie Review

I LOVE hindi cinema. ¬†That is no secret. ¬†If you are like me and you love hindi cinema for its vibrance, songs and larger than life feel, you will LOVE “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan”. ¬†It is a culmination of all I love: beautifully choreographed songs, lots of laughs, great costumes, mushy romantic scenes, family drama and outstanding cinematography.

The story is not unique but it is the way the story is told that is the new twist to an old story and what makes the movie work.  The director, Ali Abbas Zafar knows what he is doing.  He draws brilliant performances from all the cast members and tells his story well.  He chose great locations and a great editor!

The cast is the shining glory of this film. ¬†Katrina Kaif looks fabulous as usual. Her acting skills are improving with every performance and she is very loveable as Dimple. ¬†This girl deserves all the fame she has achieved because she is clearly hard working. ¬†Her hindi diction is much approved, it is hard to believe she did not know Hindi till a few years back! ¬†Katrina’s expressions are also wonderful. ¬†I think she learned much from her previous film “Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani”, where she played a girl somewhat similar to her character in “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan”. ¬†Imran Khan is spectacular. ¬†His character, Kush is every girl’s dream (good looking, supportive, creative, responsible, family loving, spunky and fun) and the brother everyone wants. ¬†Imran breathes life into his character and makes Kush exactly what the story calls for. ¬†The brother is portrayed by Ali Zafar (previously seen in Tere Bin Laden). ¬†I can say one thing with certainty this film would not have been half as entertaining if the casting of the brother was not so good. ¬†Ali is fantastic. ¬†The way he speaks, his facial expressions and his comic timing all make it impossible to take your eyes off the screen. ¬†I really hope we get to see more of this delightful talent from Pakistan.

The first half of “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan” is a fast paced, fun filled ride. ¬†The second half is also very entertaining. ¬†There is only one flaw in this film and that is that the ending is dragged a bit. ¬†Just when you think all is well, an unexpected plot twist comes into place. ¬†It is not that the plot twist is totally unrealistic, it makes sense considering what happens in the film. ¬†However, the problem is solved in too short a time span, making it a bit redundant.

I was having a very stressful week but “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan” provided me relief from all the stress. ¬†If you like to laugh or need a laugh, this film is for you. ¬†Yashraj Films are always quality products and this film is no exception. You won’t be bored for even a second!
